Name: Ianto Jones
Canon Point: Post Children of Earth - Day Four
Is this character dead? ...Yep. Well, he died in canon before coming to the Underworld (As I understand it, the option to be dead is no longer in game play).
History: Tardis Index File - Ianto Jones
Personality: First and foremost, Ianto is from Wales. Many would say that starting with his heritage is more suited to character history sections, but with Ianto that's just not the case. He's staunchly proud of where he's from and, in his opinion, how its shaped him. Being Welsh is a source of pride for him, one he embraces fully. Speaking of pride, boy is he proud and how! Everything Ianto bothers to touch must be done to the fullest, most capable extent. Be that something as simple as making coffee or something extremely complicated, everything is done with a pursuit of perfection.

Perfectionist is certainly a word that describes Ianto. As do stubborn and controlling. Often times, these tend to go hand in hand. We see, very early on, the meticulous, almost obsessive care that Ianto takes in all aspects of his life. Perfectly tailored suits are color coordinated and pressed daily. The Torchwood archives are maintained with precision and an intense attention to detail. We learn later that he even went so far as to lie to his colleagues about his father's profession, which can only be seen as yet another one of the half-truths that Ianto had told since the initial whammy of hiding Lisa, his Cyberwoman girlfriend, from the team. Ianto has a certain way he views himself and he goes to painstaking lengths to make sure that image is carefully cultivated with others.

In that vein, make no mistake that Ianto will have no problems doing whatever it takes to get to his goal. From the incident with Lisa, to shooting Owen, to the partial destruction of a military base in order to save Jack, when it matters most Ianto Jones does not hesitate. He'll ignore rules, regulations, social conventions, and even his own internal fears when the situation counts. Granted, this sometimes (read: often times) leads him to make Bad Decisions, capital B, capital D, but that's is sort of a theme for the members of Torchwood. Without a doubt, by the second series, Ianto is incredibly dedicated to Jack's Torchwood Three (and all that embodies).

In spite all of this, Ianto Jones is not a cold, hardened man that's brimming with confidence. He has his insecurities. Most of them are actually what fuels his need to get everything in his life in organized, orderly little metaphorical boxes. The Battle of Canary Wharf scarred him, both the atrocities witnessed and the very personal loss of his beloved. Ianto wants desperately to matter. He's not just a teaboy and he's certainly not a part-time shag. In fact, he has to believe that he's more than those things because otherwise, what's the point? Once Lisa was gone, Ianto had to find something to give his life meaning.

As the series progresses, he reaches out more and more to those at Torchwood. He manages to laugh genuinely with them and even strike up a loose set of relations with Jack. Over time he also develops a relatively solid friendship with Gwen, which ends up strengthening after the loss of Tosh and Owen. During his final days, he even manages to open up to his sister and strike down some of the compartmentalizing that had followed him throughout his time in Cardiff.

Torchwood requires a certain amount of acceptance of the weird and an ability to think outside the norms. In more positive strokes of the brush, Ianto can consistently be characterized by his ability to find solutions in any situation. No, seriously, who just drives a bulldozer into a fully armed base? Ianto Jones, that's who. Similarly, his dry wit and, sometimes twisted, sense of humor remain consistent parts of his personality from start to finish. There's a subtle amount of levity that he tries to inject into situations when he can.

In light of all the things he's seen, done, and experienced, it's really remarkable that Ianto had gotten to a point where he's not only functional but even stable. By the end of his time with Torchwood in Cardiff, he's gone through a very dynamic set of changes. The innate internal strength he has, what we see glimpses of more and more as the series progresses, is potentially the most unsung part of his personality. And really, the same holds true for any of the members of Torchwood and, specifically, Torchwood Three. Jack chose the team he did for the various talents, surely, but he also chose them because of that special inherent something each one of them had.
Skills | Powers: Ianto is human, mortal, and has no supernatural powers. However, he's rather intelligent, has an incredibly sound memory, and is a pretty decent shot with guns to boot.

First Person Sample:
[Ianto doesn't want to panic but his last memories, coupled with the completely foreign surroundings are making that rather difficult. The only thing that keeps him from thinking he's dead, all good and proper, is the funny little iPad-like device sitting by his feet. After some fiddling, the device lights up and even gives him the option to transmit. Taking a deep breath, he puts on his best fake smile and does his best to remain painfully neutral.

Well hello there. I certainly hope that someone useful manages to catch a glimpse of this video. I can't help but wonder if my arriving here had something to do with the Doctor. Seems like falling through time and space routinely go hand in hand with his presence.

...

Speaking of here, I'd greatly appreciate any of you at the other end of this feed giving me an idea of where, exactly, here is. It's hard to get things sorted when you're in the dark.

[The transmission will cut out abruptly after that. And no, he never did give his name.]

And here's some actual interaction over at the LiveJournal SWS!
